How to raise pigs: a backyard fattening guide for Cebu

Health basics
Iron
Piglets need an iron supplement within 3 days of birth (AO 41) — ask the seller if it was given.
Deworm, then vaccinate
Deworm one or two weeks after weaning; vaccinate one week after deworming (DA RFO 2). Vaccinate against hog cholera on your vet’s schedule; the Philippines is FMD-free without vaccination (WOAH, 2026).

ASF and the rules in Cebu
ASF reached Ginatilan in September 2026; two barangays were quarantined and checkpoints set up (The Freeman, 2 Oct 2026). Buy pigs only with a vet health certificate, keep visitors out of the pen and do not bring in pork from outside. Pigs shipped into Cebu need a shipping permit, an animal health certificate and a negative ASF test (SunStar, 24 Jun 2026).
Under the DA Code of Practice, a backyard piggery has fewer than 20 sows; farms with 20 sows or more register with the Bureau of Animal Industry (AO 41, 2000). Check local permits with your municipal agriculture office.
